Common Impression Mistakes to Avoid

Putty mixed unevenly

SOLUTION: Mix blue and white putty until NO white patches can be seen. Putty should be one uniform color.

Roof of mouth not imprinted

SOLUTION: Press putty completely into the roof of your mouth. Leave no air gaps.

Shallow impression

SOLUTION: Do not over knead or over mix putty. Approximately 30 sec is enough. 

Over mixed putty = dry putty = shallow impression

Putty was divided/not distributed evenly

SOLUTION: Distribute putty evenly to cover the whole tray. You may smoosh a bit more putty where your missing tooth/teeth to make sure that area will be covered. 

Do not divide or split putty into smaller amounts, you will not have enough coverage.

Front outer gums not imprinted (Valplast Partials)

SOLUTION: For Valplast partials, make sure to put enough putty where your missing tooth/teeth are and onto surrounding teeth next to the missing tooth/teeth. The putty should be touching your front outer gums when you insert.
